Don’t Steal

That’s the sort of line that gets a laugh in April, especially from someone who has just finished gathering receipts from three different drawers.
I know taxes pay for things we use. I drive on public roads, rely on the fire department, and appreciate clean drinking water. I’d just like the process of paying for them to make a little more sense.
Every year, I sit down with forms that ask questions in a language resembling English. Somewhere in the instructions is a sentence that sends me to a worksheet, which sends me to another form, which sends me looking for coffee.
Then I mail the result and hope I understood it correctly.
So yes, I’ll grumble about taxes. That comes with being the Old Curmudgeon. I’ll also pay what I owe, keep the receipts, and continue asking where the money went.
The Old Curmudgeon
PS: I’d write a longer complaint, but I need to find last year’s paperwork.
